Five interesting facts about the Farsi language:

1. Farsi is one of the oldest languages still spoken today, and is largely unchanged from thousands of years ago. Iranian people can read and understand poems from 1600–1700 years ago with less difficulty than an English person reading Shakespeare.

2. There was a large influx of Persian migrants to the USA in the 1980s, many of whom settled in Los Angeles, earning the city the nickname ‘Tehrangeles’.

3. There are many English words of Farsi origin, including ‘shawl’, ‘pyjamas’, ‘khaki’, ‘kiosk’, ‘lilac’ and ‘jasmine’.

4. Persian grammar is relatively simple. It is a genderless language and does not have noun inflection, adjectival agreement, or any irregularities in its verbal conjugation.

5. Persian literature is among the oldest in the world, spanning thousands of years. It has inspired literary works in many other cultures around the world.
