Surrey Translation Bureau’s HR and Compliance Officer wins prestigious ‘Corporate Employee’ ITI award 2023!

The ITI awards are a highlight in the UK’s translation and interpreting industry event calendar, recognising knowledge and skills, business practices, innovation and contributions to the industry. Winning the ‘Corporate Employee’ award demonstrates outstanding achievement by a staff member of a Corporate Member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting and celebrates the significant impact they have made on business operations and a company’s growth.

A worthy award winner: Ruth Parkin

Ruth joined the team at Surrey Translation Bureau (STB) in 2014, initially as a Project Manager. In 2018, she took over responsibility for maintaining ISO and GDPR procedures and documentation and has been supporting the team since 2019 as our HR and Compliance Officer.

Ruth tackled a number of challenges in 2022 including regulation monitoring and data transfer regulations post Brexit, client data security requirements, GDPR compliance, as well as securing mental health support for staff. To meet these challenges, she ensured the enforcement of contractual adjustments, set up staff training on data protection and GDPR, created a system of reminders for data deletion, and on the HR front, Ruth sourced training for herself and all line managers at STB to qualify as Mental Health First Aiders and rolled out line management training across a range of employee-focused fields.

Ruth reflects on the award win: “I am absolutely overwhelmed with gratitude to have been selected as ITI’s Corporate Employee 2023 award winner! I started out at STB as a Project Manager; several years on and I found my true calling in life, HR and Compliance. STB supporting my decision to explore these areas further is testament to how the Company aids its employees in making their career dreams come true! I am so honoured to have all my hard work and dedication in these areas recognised in this way by both STB and the ITI, thank you to everyone who made it happen!”

STB has been a long-standing Corporate Member of the ITI for over 10 years and became one of just three Accredited Language Service Provider in 2021. As a member, STB abides by the ITI Code of Professional Conduct and demonstrates an ongoing commitment to professional development, as the ITI offers training and networking opportunities that allow our team to stay abreast of the latest developments in translation and the specialised fields we translate in.
