After going virtual in 2021, the ITI Conference, a flagship event of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting, is back this year with a hybrid model. It will be held in person in Brighton and also showcased digitally, on 31st May and 1st June 2022.

The team from Surrey Translation Bureau (STB) will be attending the conference in person and will also be available online to chat to any remote delegates, to maximise the opportunity to finally be together with the translation industry peers after such a long time. The event will offer several chances to network with old acquaintances and make new contacts.

The theme for this year’s conference is ‘embracing change, emerging stronger’ and many of the talks will cover how the language industry has changed over the last two years post-pandemic and will explore ways and opportunities to emerge stronger from the challenges and changes within the industry. STB’s very own Project Manager Jasmine Stolk will also be presenting, alongside Ilir Hoti, Head of Operations at Clear Voice Interpreting Services. Their presentation tackles ‘how to handle complaints and turn them into something positive’ and is designed to be a hands-on approach to turning a perceived negative situation into an opportunity to strengthen working relationships.

Jasmine shared her thoughts about the opportunity, “I’m really excited to be attending the ITI conference this year.

I really hope that attendees are able to take something away from my talk on how to handle complaints. It can be a delicate subject, but I think we’ve handled it in a light-hearted way that should resonate with everyone.

STB is also proud to be supporting this year’s ITI Conference by sponsoring the tea and coffee stations at the event and exhibiting at the corporate showcase.

ITI Chief Executive, Paul Wilson commented, “After such a long time forced apart, we are very much looking forward to bringing the ITI Community back together in Brighton. The content of the sessions is, as always, incredibly varied, and this year we have worked hard to give a platform to a new generation of speakers, like Jasmine from STB, who will bring fresh perspectives to a wide range of topics. We are grateful to STB and all our sponsors for supporting the event.”

What is the ITI?

Founded in 1986, the ITI – Institute of Translation and Interpreting – is the only UK-based independent professional membership association for practising translators, interpreters and language services businesses.

STB has been a Corporate Member of the ITI since 2013 and has twice been recognised with the Corporate Member Award. In 2021, STB became one of ITI’s first Corporate Accredited Language Service Provider Members. Greg Hyne, Senior Project Manager at STB also won the ITI Best Newcomer (Corporate Member) award in 2020.

STB’s Translator, Nick Ives, is also a qualified member of the Institute, alongside STB’s Head of Operations, Hannah Stacey, who is a qualified member and a Board Member of the ITI.

STB’s team members always take an active role in supporting the organisation, through presenting at ITI events, having articles published in its quarterly magazine, the ITI Bulletin, and offering five insightful pre-recorded webinars through ITI’s online shop.
