On Sunday, 2 July 2023, Surrey Translation Bureau (STB) staff spent the day supporting local charity Cherry Trees as volunteers at the Horsley Big Day Out. The event took place by the historic Horsley Towers.

The Horsley Big Day Out was a community event, organised by the East Horsley Parish Council. It featured a parade of more than 100 classic cars, music from local bands including the tribute band Not The Rolling Stones, a Kid’s Park, delicious food and drink, and a wellness market – Horsley WellFest.

100% of the event’s profits were donated to Cherry Trees Respite Home for Children with Disabilities, a local charity based in Surrey.

On the day, 11 STB team members came along to volunteer and help, and we also donated some raffle prizes.

It all kicked off at 2 p.m. and lasted until 7 p.m. – although our volunteers were up bright and early and arrived in the morning to help set up.

The STB team was responsible for regulating the incoming visitor traffic and parking duties. We were stationed in different corners of the venue, directing visitors, vendors and classic cars. There was a great turnout so most of the job was trying to ensure that there was enough space for everyone. We ended up filling two fields of cars as well as the provided on-site parking!

After a long day of marshalling, we were given some refreshment vouchers to enjoy the food and drink on offer, and some of our staff even went on the Kid’s Park rides.

Debbie Boulter, Community & Engagement Manager at Cherry Trees, commented, “Thank you so much to you all for all your efforts, you all worked so hard and you were such a fun and engaging group to have on board. Thank you for the additional raffle prizes too.

We raised over £7000 which is a tremendous boost to our fundraising target.”

What did STB staff think of the day?

Indi Kaur, Resource Manager at STB said, “It was lovely to see so many volunteers and vendors at the charity fun day helping to raise funds for a very good cause. I had the responsibility of manning the front gates and letting cars come in; it was very exciting to see all the cool classic cars.”

George Cooke, STB’s Managing Director, added, “It was great seeing all the classic cars and being able to speak to a few of the owners. Nothing like parking duties to make you feel important!”

We are thrilled that the Horsley Big Day Out was so well received in the local community and glad to give our time to such an important charity. Thank you to everyone who came to the event and generously donated!
