Our team

Our Project Managers, in-house translation team and Resource Manager have language-based degrees and Master’s degrees in translation, and all our new freelancers are tested before being approved. This means that from start to finish your documents are in the hands of experienced professionals, who make the quality and accuracy of your text their priority.

Our staff are certified users of SDL Trados translation software and we are also willing to try any other client-specific software you may use.

George Cooke

Managing Director and Finance Manager

George_CookeGeorge is a chartered accountant and member of the ACCA with experience in both practice and commerce. He studied at Oxford and holds an MA (Oxon) degree in Philosophy and Theology. George succeeded his father John Cooke as manager of the company and is also responsible for all financial matters.

Hannah Stacey

Head of Translation Operations, MITI

Hannah Stacey who is the head of translation operations at Surrey Translation Bureau

Hannah is responsible for day-to-day translation operations and manages the translation, project management, resource management and compliance teams. Hannah joined Surrey Translation Bureau as a project manager in August 2009 and has been working in her current role since February 2012.  Hannah has a wealth of client experience managing translation requirements across a variety of languages and workflows and bridges the gap between the production and sales teams. She holds an MA in Italian Translation and Linguistics from the University of Westminster and a BA in French and Italian from the University of Kent. Hannah is a Qualified Member of the Institute of Translation & Interpreting.

Marya Jabeen

Marketing Manager

Marya Jabeen who is a sales and marketing manager at Surrey Translation BureauMarya joined Surrey Translation Bureau in May 2016 and is responsible for the company’s sales and marketing activities. She also manages Surrey Translation Bureau’s social media profiles. Marya holds a BA (Hons) and an MA (Hons) in Media and Communications from Jamia Millia Islamia University. In addition to her experience in sales and marketing, specifically within communications, public relations and brand management, she has worked for Rosetta Stone, a language learning software company, for over four years and is proficient in both Hindi and Urdu.

Craig Howell

Craig Howell

With over a decade of sales experience across a wide range of industries, Craig first entered the translation industry in 2011 and joined STB in 2018. He is responsible for all sales activity, which includes identifying and understanding potential corporate and agency clients’ needs, to ensure we can provide them with the most appropriate service from our range. He also heads up our account management team, who keep in touch with our current clients, to ensure they continue to receive the best possible service.

Elmira Thacker

Account Manager

Elmira Thacker the account manager at Surrey Translation BureauElmira holds a degree in management from the Ural Academy of Public Administration in Ekaterinburg, Russia, and also a Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English. Elmira has lived in Russia, Latvia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and the UK, carving a career in international sales specialising in CIS and European regions. Elmira started working for Surrey Translation Bureau in January 2012 and has a great interest in business-to-business sales and customer relations in a commercial environment. She is responsible for growing revenue through account management activities at Surrey Translation Bureau.

Allison Spangler

Head of Resource Management

Allison Spangler who is a resource manager at Surrey Translation BureauAllison holds an MSc in Translation Studies and Professional Practice from the University of Glasgow and a BBA in International Business and Spanish from James Madison University in Virginia, USA where her studies included a semester at the University of Salamanca in Spain. Before starting her role as Resource Manager, she worked as an English teacher for 2 years in Málaga, Spain. Allison takes care of our freelance translators as well as our in-house translation team, manages incoming freelance applications and ensures there are no large gaps in our regular language combination and text genre needs. She also writes The Word, STB’s quarterly newsletter.

Richard Davis

Head of Project Management

Richard Davis the head of project management at Surrey Translation BureauRichard holds an MA in Translation and Professional Language Skills from the University of Bath. He has worked in France, Spain and Germany and is fluent in both French and Spanish. However, it is Richard’s English writing skills that brought him to the translation industry and he specialises in editing texts produced by other translators to enhance readability and impact. He has been working at Surrey Translation Bureau since 2010.

Ruth Parkin

Senior Compliance Officer and Translation Project Manager

Ruth Bond a project manager and compliance officerRuth holds an MA in Translating from the University of Salford and a BA in French and German from the University of Leicester. The latter involved a year abroad, during which she spent five months working as a teaching assistant in Salzburg and subsequently studied in Besançon. Ruth joined the team at Surrey Translation Bureau in September 2014 as a Project Manager, after gaining industry experience as a translation proofreader, working primarily from German to English.  She is responsible for maintaining our ISO standard procedures and documentation.

Katie Magill

Katie Magill who is a project manager at Surrey Translation Bureau

Katie studied her MA in Translation Studies (Distance Learning) from the University of Portsmouth, while also teaching English as a Second Language in both Sydney and Portsmouth. Prior to this, she completed an LLB Honours in Law with a Modern Language (Italian) at the University of Strathclyde, where she spent one year working and studying Italian, European and Human Rights Law at L’università degli studi di Padova. After a four week internship at Surrey Translation Bureau in September 2016, she joined the team as a Translation Project Manager. Katie is currently on maternity leave.

Jessica Truelsen

Senior Translation Project Manager Jessica Truelsen

Jessica holds an MA in Translation Studies from the University of Hull and a BA in French with Business, including Italian and Spanish modules, from the University of Northumbria. The latter included a year abroad in France, during which she spent seven months as a teaching assistant in Brittany, followed by three months working as an au pair in Lyon. Languages have always been her passion and her stay abroad only cemented her ambition to mould a career in the translation industry. She discovered a love for medical and legal translation, as well as developing an interest in subtitling during her studies. Following her graduation, Jessica joined the team at Surrey Translation Bureau as a Project Manager in November 2016.

Amey Higgon

Amey Higgon

Amey has a BA in Modern Languages: Italian and Spanish from the University of Exeter. Her course included a semester studying translation at the University of Bologna in Italy. She also spent some time living in Spain, during which she worked in a private university, taking on Spanish to English translation projects and running English conversation classes. Amey joined STB as a full-time Project Manager in January 2017 after completing a six-week internship. She is also responsible for coordinating our internship programme.

Ashley Mikkola

Ashley Mikkola who is a project manager at Surrey Translation Bureau

Ashley studied her MA in Translation Studies at the University of Portsmouth, before which she studied a BA in International Political Economy at Carthage College, Wisconsin, USA. Her studies included an internship with the German CDU, a semester in Hamburg studying International Economics and a year studying International Comparative Sociology in Kiel, where she gained experience translating German materials for international students. Ashley joined Surrey Translation Bureau as a project manager in May 2016.

Greg has a BA in European Studies and German from King’s College London which included a year studying in Berlin. Greg discovered his love for translation while undertaking freelance German to English translation work during his final year at university. He then went on to take an in-house translation position before joining STB as a Project Manager in 2018.

Sonia Rodriguez

Translation Project Coordinator

Sonia Rodriguez who is an office assistant at Surrey Translation BureauSonia joined the STB team in September 2016 as an Office Assistant but also helps with project management tasks for individual clients. Sonia has a BA (Hons) in Applied Linguistics from the UANL, Monterrey, Mexico and has completed courses in French at the Alliance Française, Mexico and Vichy, France. Sonia has worked as a freelance translator since 2003, translating from English and French into Spanish, and has lived in Uruguay, Mexico, the United States, Switzerland, France and now the UK.

Chloe Jones

Senior Translator

Chloe Jones, senior translatorChloe holds an MA in Interpreting and Translating from the University of Bath and an MA (Oxon) in French and German from the University of Oxford. As part of her studies, she spent a year working as a language assistant in Osnabrück and later completed internships at the European Patent Office in Munich and the European Commission in Brussels. She previously worked as an in-house translator at a large manufacturing company and as a translator and then senior translator at a translation agency in Kingston. She joined Surrey Translation Bureau as a senior translator in August 2016.

Jenny Mallinowski


Jenny Mallinowski is a translator at Surrey Translation BureauJenny has a BA in European Studies, specialising in English and Spanish from the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg, in her native Germany. British culture and language have fascinated her ever since her first English lesson at school, which led her to start her career in the UK. Having started out as a trainee for Surrey Translation Bureau in 2010, Jenny became an in-house German translator soon after. She specialises in medical, tourism and marketing translation, but also proofreads translations and takes on behind-the-scenes project management tasks.

Nick Ives, MITI


Nick Ives who is a translator at Surrey Translation BureauNick holds a BA in French and German from Queen Mary, University of London and an MA in Translation Studies from UCL. His BA included a year studying linguistics, German studies and French literature at the Universität Hamburg in Germany. Nick joined Surrey Translation Bureau in February 2014 as Translation Editor and has since progressed to the role of Translator. He is also a Qualified Member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting. Nick spends most of his time translating from German into English in a range of subject areas and also carries out editing and proofreading tasks, including for STB’s various blog contributions.

Jasmine Stolk


Jasmine StolkJasmine holds an MA in Translation from the University of Surrey and a BA (hons) in Applied languages (German and French) from the University of Portsmouth. Her BA included a year abroad where she studied in Université de Mons in Belgium and Hochschule Flensburg in Germany. She has always been interested in languages and different cultures after having spent extensive time in Germany, the Netherlands, Indonesia and the UK. Jasmine initially joined us as in intern in the summer of 2016, and after completing her MA, came back to join us full-time as a Reviser in October 2017.

Indi Kaur

Resource Coordinator

Indi KaurIndi Joined STB in Jan 2019, having previously studied a BA Hons in Spanish and Intercultural studies with one year spent in Granada, Spain as an Erasmus student; she fell in love with the city and considers it one of the best experiences of her life. After she finished her degree at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, she decided to go back to Spain where she worked as an English assistant in a primary school in Jerez de la Frontera. Her job as a Resource Coordinator is to assist our Resource Manager in recruiting talented freelancers and to be the first point of call to support our freelancers with any queries and questions.

Camilla Cooke

Accounts Assistant

Camilla Cooke who is an accounts assistant on Surrey Translation BureauCamilla has an MA (Oxon) in Philosophy and Theology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies from UCL. She has worked in libraries and also completed a Chapterhouse course in copy-editing and proofreading, working as a freelance copy-editor for twelve years. Camilla started working for STB on a part-time basis in January 2014, assisting George in accounts with invoicing and bookkeeping.
