Role: Translation Project Management team member for immediate start

Surrey Translation Bureau has a vacancy on its busy project management team on a full-time, in-house basis at its offices in central Farnham*. Applications from both experienced PMs or industry newcomers are welcome. Candidates with experience working from German into English are ideal.

Project Management duties

> Dealing with customer enquiries and producing quotations in a timely fashion

> Organising and running multiple translation projects for various clients

> Ensuring deadlines are adhered to

> Preparing files for translation

> Liaising and negotiating with suppliers

> Selecting and assigning translation teams

> Carrying out detailed quality control checks on files

> Updating and maintaining translation memories and termbases

> Taking responsibility for budgets

> Submitting invoicing promptly

> Attending and contributing to monthly company-wide meeting and team meetings

Account Management duties

> Liaising with Sales and Account Management staff to help grow client accounts

> Maximising project profit

> Maintaining and growing relationships with existing clients and creating new client relationships

> Visiting clients as and when required, domestically and overseas, pending experience

Linguistic experience preferred for the following:

> Assessing quality of supplier output on an ongoing basis

> Editing and revising translations

> Performing short translation tasks on an ad hoc basis

(Note: for industry newcomers project management skills training will take priority over these skills.)

Education and skills required

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria and also provide evidence of good time management and project coordination skills from previous employment or through education or training:

> Hold a recognised graduate degree in translation

> Hold a BA degree or equivalent in one or preferably two other languages, German language skills considered an advantage.


Additionally, candidates must:

> Have excellent business English

> Be committed to quality and attention to detail

> Be able to multi-task and work under pressure

> Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills

> Have strong IT skills, with at least an awareness, if not a good knowledge of CAT tools (preferably SDL Trados and/or Across).

> Show initiative and good commercial sense in decision-making.

*The role will be remote in line with government recommendations after a two-week initial procedural induction on-site. Otherwise, this will be an in-house position.
